What's on the application?

The application requests a variety of information to learn as much as possible about the student's academic achievements, as well as, community, school, and OABCIG Dollars for Scholars involvement. Information is also requested on their college plans, work history, citizenship, and goals.

Each page of the application is worth a designated number of points. The amount of the scholarship a student receives is based on their total points. The scoring process is anonymous as each page is scored by a different board member without seeing the student's name or the rest of their application.

Process to receive your scholarship money

IMPORTANT: You need to accept your scholarships by June 15, 2018. Payments for scholarships may not be made unless you have accepted your award online and return the paper payment voucher. Here is what you need to do:

Online: Once you receive email notification that your scholarships are awarded, log in to your student profile. Under 'My Scholarships', you will see a list of your awarded scholarships. Click on 'Accept Scholarship'. Complete the college information, update your contact information if necessary, and click on the electronic signature box to sign and accept your award. This must be completed by June 15, 2018.

Paper Payment Voucher: You must also complete and send in the appropriate payment voucher by June 15, 2018. Payment vouchers and return envelopes are enclosed in the envelope you receive on awards night.

 

1st Year Scholarship

  • Paid to student 2nd term of their 1st year
  • Deadline to return voucher is June 15, 2018
  • Check will be sent to college by January 1, 2019

Send this voucher by June 15, 2018, if you plan on attending school in fall 2018 or anytime before September 15, 2020 (date 1st year voucher expires)

 

2nd Year Scholarship

  • Paid to student 1st and 2nd term of their 2nd year
  • Deadline to return voucher is June 15, 2019
  • Check for 1st term will be sent to college by August 15, 2019
  • Check for 2nd term will be sent to college by January 1, 2020

If you received your 1st year scholarship by January 2019, please return the 2nd year scholarship voucher by June 15, 2019. If you received your 1st year scholarship after January 2019, you have a one year eligibility window, from receipt of your 1st year scholarship, to submit the 2nd year voucher.

 

3rd Year Scholarship

  • Paid to student 1st and 2nd term of their 3rd year
  • Deadline to return voucher is June 15, 2020
  • Check for 1st term will be sent to college by August 15, 2020
  • Check for 2nd term will be sent to college by January 1, 2021

If you received your 2nd year scholarship by January 2020, please return the 3rd year scholarship voucher by June 15, 2020. If you received your 2nd year scholarship after January 2020, you have a one year eligibility window, from receipt of your 2nd year scholarship, to submit the 3rd year voucher.

 

Important - Please Read

It is the student's responsibility to keep OABCIG Dollars for Scholars updated on their school status.

If a voucher is not returned by the appropriate date, no scholarship payment will be issued. Exceptions to this policy must be addressed in writing to the OABCIG Dollars for Scholars board.
